3 teens wounded in Davenport shootout
Three teenagers were injured in a shootout early Sunday morning in Davenport after a series of prom-related parties erupted into violence, authorities said. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the teens were caught in the crossfire and were not the intended targets.
DAVENPORT, Fla. - Three Florida high school students inside a car were shot early Sunday morning, innocently caught in the cross-fire between groups attending a large prom after-party in Davenport, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
All three teenagers attended Osceola County High School, the school district and Sheriff Judd said. Though, Osceola County High School didn't celebrate prom over the weekend.
Officials are now searching for three suspected shooters, though Sheriff Judd expressed frustration that, despite hundreds attending the event, there is very little information on the shooters from those who attended the event.
Chaos at Wawa
The backstory:
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, deputies first responded to a Wawa gas station around 2:14 a.m. after there were reports of a mob outside, people stealing and the gas station couldn't conduct regular business.
Davenport prom after-party shooting update, Sheriff Grady Judd
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd provided the latest updates in regard to the prom after-party shooting that happened in Davenport over the weekend.
When deputies arrived, they did not notice any large crowds. However, security video footage showed the large crowd dispersing after they caught the sound of sirens heading that way. The Wawa manager was satisfied with the fact the teens were no longer on the property so the deputies left and responded to their next call.

Crowd moves to condo parking lot, shots fired
What we know:
After leaving the Wawa, the teens seemed to have relocated to the parking lot of The Azur Resort, a short-term rental property in Davenport. Deputies then received calls of an active shooter around 3:38 a.m. and responded to the resort's parking lot. The caller reported that a fight had broken out between two groups of people.
During their investigation, deputies found 33 shell casings and three firearms: a 380 pistol, a 9mm handgun and a .223 Remington semi-automatic rifle.
The three injured students were in a vehicle when they were shot and seemed to not have been involved in the disagreement, according to Sheriff Judd. They also have no criminal records. "They were just where they shouldn't have been after midnight", Sheriff Grady Judd said.
The three victims:
- A 17-year-old Black female, bullet grazed shoulder & forehead
- A 17-year-old Black male, bullet shrapnel in eye (possibly permanent damage)
- 18-year-old Middle Eastern male, minor forehead graze from bullet
Over 100 students from at least 3 schools present
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Dr. Phillips High School and Jones High School had their proms. Students from Dr. Phillips, Jones and Osceola High Schools were present at what seemed to be a prom after-party.
Sheriff Grady Judd expressed his frustration with the lack of people who have come forward with information. "Why is it that there is over 100 people here and nobody knows anything?", Sheriff Grady Judd said.
The sheriff did state that there is a lot of video and the department is currently working through all the footage to gather more information on the case.
